How to Configure DKIM Record on your DNS

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email authentication protocol that verifies the legitimacy of emails sent from your domain. It adds a digital signature to outgoing emails, which helps prevent spoofing and ensures messages are trusted by recipient servers.

Steps to configuring DKIM Records

1. Check if DKIM is already configured

Tools like MXToolbox can show if DKIM has been previously set up on the DNS. If a record exists, proceed to configure the DMARC record. If no record is available, continue with DKIM record configuration. 

‍2. Generate a DKIM key pair

The DKIM key pair consists of a public and private key. The public key will be added to your domain record to verify authenticity while the private key signs your emails.

3. Add the DKIM key to your domain

Sign in to your domain host, add the DKIM TXT record, save and return to your ESP to activate the change.

4. Turn on and verify DKIM

Turn on DKIM in your ESP settings and test the setup. Proper authentication ensures that your emails avoid spam filters and reach recipients’ inbox.
