DNS Records: How-to Configure DMARC
How To Configure the DMARC Record on Your DNS
DMARC is a protocol that helps prevent email spoofing and protects your domain from being used in phishing attacks. DMARC records tell receiving mail servers how to handle emails that claim to be from your domain but fail authentication checks.
How to configure DMARC records
- Turn on SPF & DKIM: Ensure they are correctly configured and authenticated for all third-party services you use to send email through your domain.
- Check if DMARC is already set up: Remember that your DMARC policy should contain instructions on what a receiving email server should do when they receive invalid email from your domain.
- Set up a group of mailboxes for reports: Create a dedicated email for your DMARC reports.
- Prepare your DMARC record: DMARC is a policy that defines how email messages should be authenticated. The VNP tags must be listed first but the other tags can be in any order.
- Add and verify your DMARC record in your DNS settings: Sign in to your domain host, update the text record with the information obtained from your email service provider. Be sure to verify that the record is properly formatted.
